The Artist
Hi 👋🏻, I’m Miriah Snow, creator of Art Over Thought. I’ve never had an easy time writing about myself, as I tend to overthink everything I’m putting down, but here we are.😜 I’m a self-taught artist with a passion for education and conversation. As an advocate for mental wellness and self-care, I’m always striving to spread awareness and positivity. I live in North Carolina with my sexy drummer/baker husband, empathetic/imaginative teenager, energetic/spunky toddler, and my fickle/fluffy feline.

I’ve always used art to help nurture my imagination, but growing up in poverty limited my art supply access. Not realizing that everyday people could afford paints, I didn’t actually start painting until I was a teenager when a friend let me use her acrylic paint set. However, I didn’t really start getting serious about sharpening my skills until my early 20s, when I began using art as a form of therapy. Since then I’ve taken courses, read books and articles, watched countless videos, and put a lot of money into honing my craft. Now, I’m in my mid-30s and I create and use my imagination any chance I get!
The Idea
The name Art Over Thought came from my passion for art and my tendency to overthink everything. This site began as a project to spread creativity and my love for art. Things began to change when I started having conversations with my peers about their mental well-being which left me realizing there is still a lot of work to be done to destigmatize mental health. That’s when I decided to focus on promoting wellbeing through creativity.
Creativity has been shown to have a positive effect on mental health. Engaging in creative activities can help reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, as well as improve overall well-being. It can also provide a sense of accomplishment and self-esteem, which can boost one’s mood. Additionally, being creative can provide a sense of flow and mindfulness, which can promote relaxation and stress relief. My hope is to spread positivity and awareness for mental health by inspiring others to live a more intentional, creative life.
Thanks for visiting my site!
